Bloodsucking Darkness
Junji Ito’s ‘Bloodsucking Darkness’ Getting Live-Action Adaptation

“The Haunting of Hill House” writer Jeff Howard has been hired to develop Junji Ito’s manga “Bloodsucking Darkness” into a live-action feature film. Fangoria Studios, a genre film and TV company, is backing the film. It’s set to be the first of three projects that Fangoria plans to adapt from “Smashed: Junji Ito Story Collection.”

Kevin Nicklaus is producing a score of film and TV projects for the innovative web comics platoform that showcases English-language creator-owned comics, comics produced in-house by Studio Tapas and English-language translations of Korean webtoons that originally appeared on Kakaopage and Kakao Webtoon.

Kevin Nicklaus spent over a decade as the SVP of Development for producer Mark Wolper, previously working as a junior development executive for both David L. Wolper and Mark Wolper. Highlights include working on the Emmy-nominated ROOTS reboot for History Channel in 2016, in cooperation with Will Packer and LeVar Burton, and BATES MOTEL for A&E, in cooperation with Roy Lee/Vertigo.

  • Executive Producing Junji Ito’s Bloodsucking Darkness
  • Variety announced that Jeff Howard is writing and will executive produce Junji Ito’s “Bloodsucking Darkness” for Fangoria Studios. Tara Ansley, Armen Aghaeian, and Abhi Goel will produce for Fangoria Studios. Yasu Kutami and Tsubasa Yamaguchi will produce for Amuse Group USA. I am an Executive Producer on the project, along with Jeff, Phil Wurtzel from Friel Films and Ryan Lewis and Joe Riley from Zero Gravity Management.
